Feature of the Week: Feb. 21-27
A Taste of Heaven would not exist if it were not for the audience, so I want to show my appreciation by dedicating Thursdays to the fans. If you eat or make a dish of your own and its camera ready, then you can email me your photos. I will review and post them on Thursday. It’s important to remember presentation, style, and taste. I look forward to seeing your Taste of Heaven.

Description: I believe breakfast is the most important meal of the day. I always try to fill my fridge with healthy snacks and breakfast items. Since I’m a student, it’s hard to balance a busy schedule with nothing on the stomach, but somehow I make it work. This taste of heaven is French toast with fresh berries, walnuts, whipped cream, and turkey bacon. I’m in love with this feature just because it’s contains French toast!!! The berries and syrup are the perfect assets and the turkey bacon is definitely a plus. It looks filling, sweet, and delicious. (Side Note: My mouth is watering in class.) Great Job Darren!!!

Description: The mushy gushy holiday that we’ve all been waiting for has arrived. Yes, I’m taking about Valentine’s Day. If you have a crush or a significant other, now is the time to express your love for them. Dinner, romantic getaways, and champagne are a few of the sweet things you can give your valentine. This taste of heaven is a bouquet of heart shaped pineapples, chocolate covered strawberries, and grapes. Edible bouquets are a creative way to surprise someone and they're perfect for keeping the sparkle in your relationship. Beautiful feature Kourtney!!! :D

Description: I admire any restaurant that dresses up their French fries. It seems like wherever I go, someone always messes up my French fries. Believe it or not, French fries are not the easiest to make. Some places over cook them, under cook them, refry them, burn them, add too much salt (Side Note: I’m NOT pointing any fingers, but the shoe fits for McDonald’s), or serve them soggy. I just want French fries that are hot, fresh, and delicious. This taste of heaven is truffle fries with shredded Parmesan and herbs. Now, these fries look AWESOME. I love the fact that their under 600 calories and they’re affordable for your pockets. It’s definitely my type of appetizer.

Description: I show out from time to time, but this feature ALWAYS has something under her sleeve. This taste of heaven is tender steak topped with portabella mushrooms and onions, garlic redskin potatoes, sautéed asparagus, and a buttery breadstick to seal the deal. There is NO doubt in my mind that this feature is SLAPPIN’!!! Every time my friend enters the kitchen, the battle begins. She takes a simple dish and spices it up with her love for cooking. She’s one of my role models, and I love everything she puts before me. A+

Description: Now you can’t tell me this doesn’t look DELICIOUS!!!!! This taste of heaven is seafood soup. Its shrimp, conch, crab legs, red potatoes, fresh corn on the cob, chicken, and scotch bonnet peppers. Our great friend, Porscha has done it again (Side Note: Creator of Sweet P’s Homemade Cakes & Things). My favorite part about this feature is that it’s served in personal bowl, so each person gets their own personal feast. The greedy people, like myself, can enjoy their seafood favorites and NOT have to share. Hopefully, I get the opportunity to try Porscha’s famous seafood soup soon. Great Job!!!

Description: Ooooooooweeeeeee!!!!! I’ve never had a meatball sandwich before, but I’m having second thoughts now. I remember my mother use to order meatball sandwiches whenever we would visit the sub shops for dinner. I’m so greedy that I’m surprised I never stole a bite. Clearly, I've been missing out on this hardy sandwich. I would love to make my own one day; however, I would use turkey meatballs instead. Once I experiment with some recipes, I’ll post up my version of the famous meatball sandwich. Wonderful feature Grundy!!! ;D

Description: Can we take a moment and have a brief silence for the warm chocolate melting cake. I am definitely NOT a fan of cake; however, I wanted to swim in this pool of warm chocolate, and then cool down with the vanilla ice cream on the side. My cousin Tafara loves chocolate and she knows the real deal when she tastes it. While we were on the cruise she ordered the chocolate melting cake twice. I noticed every time they placed the little dish on the table, her face lit up with excitement. She was in heaven.

Description: Smothered, drowning, and swimming in sweet honey barbecue sauce. I wish I was the barbecue sauce on these spare ribs. I was anxious about this feature because I haven’t had any barbecue posts in a minute. Although its the winter time, it’s never too cold to have the grill going. I was invited to a birthday party and the family threw DOWN. We had macaroni and cheese, spare ribs, sweet potato soufflé, collard greens, baked chicken, and potato salad. I was in southern heaven once I made my first plate. Thumbs Up Tiggs!

Description: As I've said before, I’m trying to demonstrate better eating habits. I don’t eat regular hamburgers anymore; however, I will devour a turkey burger in a heartbeat. Although I haven’t had a hamburger in a while, this feature made me have second thoughts. This taste of heaven is an 8 oz gourmet burger, on a toasted Kaiser roll, with sauteed mushrooms, onions, bacon, tomato, and Swiss cheese. The healthy spread is served with French fries and ketchup for dipping. The toppings look phenomenal in this feature. It almost resembles the “Locked & Loaded” post. Nice selection Fred!

Description: I’m SUPER excited about this feature of the week for four reasons:
- It’s the FIRST recipe to premiere on A Taste of Heaven
- The recipe came from another fellow blogger. (Blog: The Soapbox)
- It’s a vegetarian dish that’s healthy for the diet.
- I plan on making this recipe for a holiday appetizer.
Everyone knows that I’m a strong advocate for eating healthy. I’ve tried to become a vegetarian, but I didn’t work out because I lost too much weight. Since the veggie scene wasn’t for me, I tried to become a pescatarian, but I’m deeply in love with other types of meat (Pescatarian: People who abstain from eating all meat and animal flesh with the exception of fish. More and more people are adopting this kind of diet for health reasons or as a stepping stone for a full vegetarian diet). Unfortunately, the whole vegetarian/pescatarian movement is NOT going well; however, I maintain a balance diet as much as possible (Side Note: Please don’t judge me). This taste of heaven is homemade Vegetarian Mexican-Style Layer Bean Dip. Boy, I wish I had a bag of tortilla chips sitting next to me. I would take the first bite because I know this dip heavenly. The best part about it is that it’s loaded with tons of delicious ingredients. The Vegetarian Mexican-Style Layer Bean Dip would make a great appetizer or Scooby Snack. Thanks for this great feature Neel!
Ingredients:
(2 cans) Refried Beans
(1½ bottle) Taco Bell Brand Restaurant Sauce
(16 oz) Sour Cream
(3) Medium Tomatoes
(1) Medium Onion
(1½ Jar) Sliced Jalapenos
(1 bunch) Green Onions
(1 bunch) Cilantro
(½ tsp) Cumin
(½ tsp) Cayenne Pepper
(½ tsp) Lime Juice

Description: Two golden fried chicken wings, a waffle, roasted pecans, whipped cream, and warm syrup for breakfast. Is your mouth watering yet? I love dishes with weird combinations. Some people would be against a combo like this, but I would dive in with no remorse. The fried chicken is speaking to me right now. I think I might have to experiment with this feature in the future. Creative Choice Porscha!

Description: One more week until the creepy crawler Trick or Treat we’ve all been waiting for. I’ve been anticipating this feature of the week since I snapped the first picture of it. This taste of heaven is a carved pumpkin with a spooky face. I admire this pumpkin because it was carved by my friend AB. She pulled out her carving utensils and newspaper, so she could start the messy project. Out of the three pumpkins she bought, this was the ugliest one. I looked at the hideous orange-green warty pumpkin and shook my head thinking whatever floats your boat. After AB finished carving, I noticed that her pumpkin didn’t look that bad. He actually had potential. ;D

Break Me Off A Piece
| Kit Kat Cake |
Description: It's a three layer chocolate lovers cake with chocolate buttercream, Kit Kats, Twix, and shaved Ghirardelli white chocolate on top.
I’m SUPER excited about this week because it’s DESSERT WEEK on A Taste of Heaven. This whole week will be dedicated to your sweet tooth. I have a special guest that I would like to introduce. She is a young lady that has a passion for making cakes and her name is Porscha. I met her through a dear friend of mine, and I want everyone to show her love and support. Every dessert posted this week will be available for purchase through Sweet P’s Homemade Cakes & Things. I hope you don’t get any cavities from all this sweetness. ;D

HEADLINE NEWS: "A 1, 2, 1, 2, 3, 4. Gimme a break, gimme a break, break me off a piece of that Kit Kat bar. Gimme a break, gimme a break, break me off a piece of that Kit Kat bar.” I think everyone knew the lyrics to this catchy song back in the day. It’s an oldie, but still a classic. I thought this Kit Kat Cake would be the perfect choice for the Feature of the Week. The first time I saw this picture, it felt like it was love at first sight. I would consider this feature to be a work of art; the design is flawless. If you don’t have any cavities by now, then I don’t know what to tell you. Break me off a piece.

Description: Whenever I travel to certain places, I look forward to certain dishes. For example, Philly cheese steaks in Philly, crab cakes in Maryland, lobster in Boston, and crawfish in New Orleans. However, when I went to New Orleans in July, crawfish was not in season; I was NOT a happy camper. I was looking forward to the Cajun spices running through my body. This taste of heaven is crawfish with fresh lemon and melted butter. When I saw this feature on Instagram, I was jealous because I haven’t had crawfish since Mardi Gras. I love this feature, but I silently hate it. Thanks a lot Kenya!

Description: I was scrolling through Instagram and this feature caught my eye. This taste of heaven is chicken quesadillas. Its grilled tortillas stuffed with tender chicken and melted cheese. The Mexican classic is cut into triangular pieces and served with sour cream, guacamole, pico de gallo, and lettuce. Chicken quesadillas are one of my favorite appetizers to order while dining out. It’s easy to throw together and it goes great with Patron margaritas. Once you add a “Whine Down” drink to the equation, your set. Two Thumbs Up Kia!!!

Description: I can be very complex when it comes to eating, but sometimes
I like to keep it simple with a sandwich. This taste of heaven is a Roasted Turkey
Melt. Its roasted turkey, applewood smoked bacon, avocado, Swiss cheese,
tomato, lettuce, and mayonnaise on toasted sourdough bread. This sandwich has everything I love on it, plus more.
I wouldn’t have thought to use avocado, but that was a nice touch. The pickles
on the side tie everything together and it completes the presentation as well.
Great Job Kenyatte!

Description: I’ve been on a healthy tip lately, if you haven’t noticed. I was really excited about this feature because it’s a dish that can be made at home without sweating over a hot stove. This taste of heaven is a spinach salad with feta cheese crumbles, cranberries, sliced strawberries, granola, and for the dressing, MK used a pomegranate vinaigrette. For some reason, many people are not into dressing up their salads with fresh fruit, but I think it’s a wonderful combination. (Don’t knock it till you try it!) I've never had pomegranate vinaigrette dressing before; however, I bought some from the grocery store last night, and I can’t wait to try it out. I’ve got some good ideas brewing, so stay tuned for more.

Description: Since my schedule is very busy, I never have time to eat breakfast. It feels good to see that someone is enjoying their breakfast. This taste of heaven is sunny side up eggs, sausage patties, grits, pancakes, home fries, caramelized apples, and a biscuit. Where do I start? This feature has everything that I love to have on the table for breakfast. Alex definitely knows what to order for the first meal of the day. I hope that I can visit a restaurant like this one when I get some free time. Yummy selection!

Description: This taste of heaven is chicken parmesan. Off of the first glance, this feature grabbed my attention. I haven’t made chicken parmesan in minute. I wish I could to dive into the photo and devour everything on the plate. The capellini pomodoro, or angel hair pasta, is covered with fresh tomato sauce and complimented with two tender chicken breasts. The breaded breasts are topped with fresh mozzarella and splashed with a hardy tomato sauce. It doesn’t get any better than this. Round of applause for Yanne's feature. ;D

Description: The fun part about my job is that I get to explore different styles of food. I look forward to the features of the week because the audience always sends me interesting dishes. This taste of heaven is strip pork, yellow saffron rice, and beans. The beautiful spread is filled with Mexican flavors. The saffron rice and beans are my favorite elements on the plate. I haven’t tried Mexican strip pork, but if I had a fork nearby I would steal a bite. This feature has me craving for some Mexican food now; I think I know what I’m having for dinner tonight. Nice selection Fred!
