Healthy Living

It’s important to live a healthy life with a balanced diet. I wanted to make something light for dinner, so I thought fish would be a great choice. This taste of heaven is pan seared tilapia over white rice with a mixed green salad and fresh tomatoes. The tilapia is topped with a tomato relish, and it’s positioned next a salad with garlic croutons, shredded cheese, and crushed black pepper. Overall, the meal was very nutritious and well balanced.

FOOD TIP: Tomatoes are rich in biotin.

Feature of the Week: Jun. 28-July 4

A Taste of Heaven would not exist if it were not for the audience, so I want to show my appreciation by dedicating Thursdays to the fans. If you eat or make a dish of your own and its camera ready, then you can email me your photos. I will review and post them on Thursday.  It’s important to remember presentation, style, and taste. I look forward to seeing your Taste of Heaven.

Description: This taste of heaven is a Mighty Meats pizza. If you're a lover of pepperoni, sausage, ground beef, ham, and applewood smoked bacon, then this feature is for you. The red sauce pizza is loaded with meat and mozzarella cheese. The crust is fluffy, buttery, and golden. I wish I could steal a slice of the freshly made pizza now. Every time I eat pizza I fold my slice in half, like my father, because it makes it fun to eat. I love this feature because it's a bold and hardy choice that's made for the big dogs. Awesome selection Davis!

Patron Passion Fruit

It’s been a long week, and you’re dying for a break. Well, I have the perfect solution. I’m introducing Whine Down Wednesdays. Every Wednesday I will offer a drink to the viewers. You don’t have to wait until the weekend arrives to enjoy a great drink. Take a break and have a sip of A Taste of Heaven.

Finally, I created a drink that everyone loves. I call this taste of heaven Patron Passion Fruit. It contains V8 Fusion Peach Mango, Patron, sliced strawberries, and cherries on the rocks. This mixture is fruitylicious. I sliced fresh cherries and strawberries for extra flavor and visual appeal. The fresh fruit floating in the Patron and peach mango mixture made the drink seductive. Making drinks is a fun activity that can bring out your creative side. I want to perfect the Patron Passion Fruit in the future. My plan is to experiment with different fruits and alcohols. I’m thinking pineapple and kiwi will be in my next feature.

FYI: Further Details...

FOOD TIP: A handful of cherries before bed naturally regulates the sleep cycle.

Dressy Tots

I enjoy having drinks and creative appetizers. I went to Hooters for lunch with some friends, and I ordered tater tots. These tots were dressed in sour cream, chives, cheese, and bacon bits. The serving size was large enough to share with the table, and it went perfect with a Bud Light Lime. These tater tots remind me of the Cheesy Boy from Chili’s, except the little tots are bite size. I like the crunch of the tot and the coolness of the sour cream together. I almost ate half of the platter, but I wanted to save room for my chicken sliders. I would recommend eating the dressy tots with a sandwich or wings. It’s the ultimate combo.

FYI: Hooters

FOOD TIP: Caviar and sour cream make the perfect marriage.

Chinese Boxes

I am from Boston, Massachusetts, and we have some of the best Chinese food there. Every time I go home, I have to order some Chinese food from the Peking. It’s something about the fried pork rice, wings, and spare ribs that keep me coming back for more. Unfortunately, I am very far from Boston, so I have to find local Chinese spots in Atlanta. This taste of heaven is Shrimp and Broccoli with pork fried rice. I usually get egg foo young, but I was craving for shrimp, so I chose this dinner entrĂ©e. I didn’t want to make a mess on the couch, so I ate my Chinese food on a box while on the floor in front of the TV. Eating on the floor actually made the experience more enjoyable. The only thing I was missing was chopsticks.

FYI: China Taste

FOOD TIP: China was the first country to use chopsticks, and then it spread to other countries.

Feature of the Week: Jun. 21-27

Description: This taste of heaven is Firecracker Chicken Wraps. Its tender shredded chicken that’s mixed with cheese and spice in a fried tortilla. The little wraps are cut at angle and plated with lettuce, chopped tomato, and a firecracker sauce. Then avocado lime sauce is drizzled above the finished product for taste and presentation. This appetizer looks srumdiliuptious. I’m ready to dive in and eat it myself. The colors draw the customer in and everything looks fresh and delicious. I would love to make this feature at home to share with friends and family. I think finger food is a great way to start the party.

BloodyRita

It’s been a long week, and you’re dying for a break. Well, I have the perfect solution. I’m introducing Whine Down Wednesdays. Every Wednesday I will offer a drink to the viewers. You don’t have to wait until the weekend arrives to enjoy a great drink. Take a break and have a sip of A Taste of Heaven.

Last Wednesday I confessed to loving margaritas, but I tried something different this time. I ventured to Daiquiri Factory for the famous frozen daiquiris. This taste of heaven is a BloodyRita. It’s a frozen house margarita mixed with strawberry daiquiri. I was definitely taking a walk on the wild side with this one. I ordered a medium sized drink because I was too scared to get a large. The frozen mixture was so cold that my straw was icy. The thick uniform gave me brain freeze a couple times and it quickly crept up on me. My waitress wanted me to order another one, but I told her I was too small for the task. If you’re looking for a fun time with over 12 daiquiri choices, then Daiquiri Factory is the place for you. WARNING: If you try them all, you might regret it later.

FYI: Daiquiri Factory

FOOD TIP: The Habitual Violator and the Green Apple mixed is another great choice.

Davis Pickles

Before Saturday’s NBA game, I ventured to Tin Lizzy’s Cantina with a group of friends. I ordered a pitcher of strawberry margarita for the table, and then my friend Davis ordered fried pickles. Every place we go to, she orders these little dill fried pickles. I could not figure out why she liked them so much, until I gave them a try. These pickles were lightly fried and paired with a spicy ranch dressing. The saltiness and crunch from the pickle mixed with the cool spicy ranch was a wonderful combo. Fried pickles are not a common appetizer that people order, but I have to be honest, I enjoyed munching on them. My friend put me on to something new, and I can't wait to order some Davis Pickles in the future.

FYI: Tin Lizzy's Cantina

FOOD TIP: Dill pickles are the most popular type of pickle (sweet is next in line).

BOMB.COM

If I make dinner for company, I like to have dessert afterwards. Brownies, cookies, apple turnovers, ice cream, or cinnamon rolls are usually my choices. This taste of heaven is Pillsbury Cinnamon Rolls. It's a small can of five that I made for myself after I cooked Steak N’ Eggs. These cinnamon rolls are absolutely delicious. I like them fresh out the oven with lots of icing. I can eat a whole can of them by myself. Cinnamon rolls are perfect for dessert or even breakfast. The cinnamon and sugary icing are a perfect combo. I have never made them from scratch, but I plan to in the future because they are BOMB.COM.

FYI: Pillsbury

FOOD TIP: Cinnamon can help with hair growth, diabetes, and weight loss.

Steak N' Eggs

I’m a northern girl, but my roots are from the South. I pulled out two steaks for dinner because I wanted Steak N’ Eggs. I seasoned the steak and seared it in a flat pan with butter. I like my steak to be tender and juicy with a warm pick inside, so I cooked the sirloin until it was medium rare. Then I cracked two eggs open, and I let them sizzle until they had a slight run. I sprinkled some cheese on the eggs and added some seasoning to the mix. Steak N’ Eggs is a hardy meal, but I wanted to add a veggie to the equation. I chose broccoli because it’s healthy and it added a splash of color to the scene. After I steamed the broccoli, I plated everything and I fed my tummy. :D

FYI: Further Details...

FOOD TIP: Egg yolks contain vitamin D.

The WINNER is Rikkila Heard, and her Feature of the Week will be premiering soon. Congratulations!!!

Description: This taste of heaven is deviled eggs.  It’s boiled eggs with a spicy tomato sauce, minced chives, and a sweet chili sauce. These little eggs are so cute to me. It’s very rare that you find deviled eggs while dining out. Many people love them, but they not know how to make them properly. They go perfect with barbecue dishes and large southern dinners. I have never had them made this way before, but it sounds like it would be delicious! I love that these deviled eggs are bold and vibrant; they would make a perfect appetizer or side item.

My Confession

It’s been a long week, and you’re dying for a break. Well, I have the perfect solution. I’m introducing Whine Down Wednesdays. Every Wednesday I will offer a drink to the viewers. You don’t have to wait until the weekend arrives to enjoy a great drink. Take a break and have a sip of A Taste of Heaven.

I think I have a weakness for margaritas. The frozen consistency mixed with the tequila and fruit is phenomenal. Whenever I visit the bar or dine at a restaurant, I always ask about the margaritas. This taste of heaven is a Strawberry-Mango Margarita.  It has a thick, but smooth uniform that’s complemented with fresh strawberry and mango flavor. The pretty mixture is served in a bowl-like glass, and it’s garnished with a strawberry. Along with my drink, I chose two of Olive Garden’s popular appetizers to complete my order. As I munched on the finger food, I sipped my Strawberry-Mango away. I wanted to order another one, but I gained self control. I decided that I would just come back for second trip.

FYI: Olive Garden

FOOD TIP: Strawberries can help reduce the risk of cancer or heart disease.

Spicy Mac N' Cheese

Macaroni and cheese has always been a favorite of mine. My family makes it from scratch every holiday. We make it the same way every time because it’s a family tradition. However, one of my friends made macaroni and cheese with a crouton crust. I was thrown off by the croutons, but I tried her recipe anyway. She told me to put hot sauce on top for an extra kick, so I drizzled some on my mac n’ cheese. The traditional recipe I grew up eating was transformed into something great. I went back for thirds, not seconds. It had a cheesy hot flavor with a light crunch on the side that I would compliment with bacon or sour cream. Sometimes you have to experiment with your food and try new things. I plan on making my friend’s spicy mac n' cheese recipe at the next family gathering. I hope they love it! :D

FYI: Further Details...

FOOD TIP: Bread that's aged makes great croutons.

Cherish the Moment

After my graduation dinner was over, Prime Restaurant rewarded me with a baby cheesecake. I thought it was a nice gesture and a sweet way to end the night. The cylinder cheesecake was paired with fresh mint and sliced strawberries, then “Congratulations” was written in chocolate cursive. The design was very artistic, and I enjoyed every bit of it. I shared with my sister because she wanted some, so we both had a field day eating the baby cheesecake. I will always cherish this moment because I accomplished getting my first degree from college.

FYI: Prime Restaurant

FOOD TIP: Fresh mint is great for garnishing.

Feature of the Week: Jun. 7-13

Description: I always look forward to the Features of the Week because it’s interesting to see the audience’s dishes. It’s become one of the most popular days of the week, and the success is from your participation. I want to give away a gift card to the first person who emails me their taste of heaven. I will announce the winner next Thursday (June 14th). This taste of heaven is wood grilled shrimp over ravioli with shaved asparagus, bacon, tomato, white wine, baby onions, and mascarpone. There are so many great things going on in the dish. I have never had a combination like this before, so I would be interested in trying this feature. The shrimp looks phenomenal and the baby onions are cute cameo. Cheryl was creative in her dinner choice, and I know it was delicious. I need to go out with you on your next food adventure! :D

The Secret

It’s been a long week, and you’re dying for a break. Well, I have the perfect solution. I’m introducing Whine Down Wednesdays. Every Wednesday I will offer a drink to the viewers. You don’t have to wait until the weekend arrives to enjoy a great drink. Take a break and have a sip of A Taste of Heaven.

It’s very rare when you can share one drink with three people. I went to a bar called F5, and I ordered a drink called “The Eight Liquor Ass Kicker”. This one drink was shared with three grown men. I don’t know the eight liquors inside of this drink because the bartender would not reveal the secret ingredients. However, it’s stronger than a Long Island Ice Tea, and it will have you more than just tipsy. Each sip is like climbing up a ladder; if you don’t your time, you will fall. The Eight Liquor Ass Kicker is a drink that I would recommend for the whole night. I advise that you share it with at least two people.  Don’t try to conquer this drink on your own because you will get chocolate wasted. Trust me on this one.

FYI: F5

FOOD TIP: Eat before drinking beverages with high alcohol content.

Finger Lickin’ Good

One thing I love about the summertime is the grills being fired up for barbeques. I had a weekend getaway to Antioch, Tennessee, and I was craving for some barbecue. This taste of heaven comes from a little hole in the wall called Ron’s BBQ & Fish. Plated are barbeque ribs, potato salad, cornbread, and macaroni and cheese. These ribs were so tender, that the meat was falling off of the bones. Ron’s BBQ & Fish uses a large barbeque pit to slowly smoke their ribs every day. When you pull up to the little restaurant, you can see the smoke and smell the flavors coming from the pit. I chose to compliment my ribs with homemade potato salad and macaroni and cheese because these sides are perfect with barbecue. Tennessee is known for having some of the best barbeque, and I think Ron’s BBQ & Fish proves this fact. I can’t wait to visit again, so I can have some more of their ribs.

FYI: Ron's BBQ & Fish

FOOD TIP: The skin of a potato contains a great deal of nutrients.
