Feature of the Week: Dec. 27-Jan. 2
A Taste of Heaven would not exist if it were not for the audience, so I want to show my appreciation by dedicating Thursdays to the fans. If you eat or make a dish of your own and its camera ready, then you can email me your photos. I will review and post them on Thursday. It’s important to remember presentation, style, and taste. I look forward to seeing your Taste of Heaven.

Description: Ooooooooweeeeeee!!!!! I’ve never had a meatball sandwich before, but I’m having second thoughts now. I remember my mother use to order meatball sandwiches whenever we would visit the sub shops for dinner. I’m so greedy that I’m surprised I never stole a bite. Clearly, I've been missing out on this hardy sandwich. I would love to make my own one day; however, I would use turkey meatballs instead. Once I experiment with some recipes, I’ll post up my version of the famous meatball sandwich. Wonderful feature Grundy!!! ;D

Holiday Madness
HEADLINE NEWS: I’m NOT the sappy type, but I kind of missed posting on my blog.
I’ve been SUPER busy, and I’ve been making some major power moves. Currently, I’m
in the city with Grandma, and I’m having a great time minus the pneumonia that’s
floating around the house. (Side Note: Grandma is sick with pneumonia) Since
Grandma is under the weather, I took the initiative to make the whole Christmas
dinner for the family. I threw on my cape and transformed into Superwoman. My
grandma is my heart, so I would do any and everything for her. The holiday menu
consisted of oxtails, honey baked ham, turkey, collard greens, spring peas,
dressing, sweet potato soufflé, macaroni and cheese, cranberry sauce, chocolate
cake, Dutch apple pie, and red velvet Christmas cake. Yes, I made EVERYTHING by
myself from scratch EXCEPT the desserts. I started the holiday cooking at 4:30
pm on Christmas Eve and I did not finish until 4:00 pm the next day. Although I’m
working off of 4 hours of sleep, it felt good being able to make dinner for my
family. They can get on my nerves at times, but they warm my heart at the same
time.

It's Electric!
It’s been a long week, and you’re dying for a break. Well, I have the perfect solution. Every Wednesday I will offer a drink to the viewers for “Whine Down Wednesdays.” You don’t have to wait until the weekend arrives to enjoy a great drink. Take a break and have a sip of A Taste of Heaven.
"You can't see it. It's electric! You gotta feel it. It's electric! Ooh, it's shakin'. It's electric! You gotta know it. It's electric. Boogie woogie, woogie! Now you can't hold it. It's electric. Boogie woogie, woogie!" I know you've heard this song at least twice in your lifetime. For some reason, while I was drinking an Electric Long Island, I could heard this song playing in my head. The cool blue mixture was just what I needed in the Cayman Islands. Normally, I don't drink Long Islands, but the Electric was calling my name. I'm trying to remember the ingredients, but I didn't have time to write it down while I was on vacation. (Side Note: I will upload the ingredients once I make some phone calls).
FOOD TIP: A traditional Long Island Ice Tea has five different liquors.

Patron Coffee Shots
It’s been a long week, and you’re dying for a break. Well, I have the perfect solution. Every Wednesday I will offer a drink to the viewers for “Whine Down Wednesdays.” You don’t have to wait until the weekend arrives to enjoy a great drink. Take a break and have a sip of A Taste of Heaven.
While in the Cayman Islands, we stopped at a restaurant by the water front. Before we got a chance to see the water, a crew of people stopped us to take some shots. My family can be friendly at times, so we didn't turn them down. I looked down at the wooden table top and saw these miniature coffee shots that were swirling in circular motion. I asked them what was in the tiny cups, and they said it was Patron Coffee shots (Side Note: The formal title is Patron XO Café). My favorite tequila is Patron, so the XO Café was right up my alley. After the cheers, I threw my coffee shot back and contemplated on asking for another. I had already had two drinks before this, so I decided to be conservative. :{
FYI: Patron XO Cafe
FOOD TIP: The Patron XO Cafe would go great in your morning coffee. ;D

Brag Away
I know you guys are still feasting your eyes on the chocolate melting cake from last week; but I have a new dessert to brag about. This taste of heaven is old fashioned apple pie with vanilla ice cream and roasted almonds. I've never been a lover of dessert, but I realize that there are some great sweets that exist out there. Apple pie is classic in my book because it takes some of the simplest ingredients and composes them into a slice of heaven. Personally, I love pairing my apple pie with ice cream and caramel drizzles. The warmness from the apples pairs well with the coldness of the vanilla and the powdered sugar seals the deal. Hmm Hmm Good!
FYI: Carnival Cruise
FOOD TIP: I recommend using Granny Smith apples in your next apple pie.

Looks Can Be Deceiving
Before you turn your nose up, READ!!! I've learned that sometimes the appearance of food can be deceiving. I preach about presentation 24/7; however, there are some dishes that are just plain ugly. Just because those dishes are NOT photogenic, doesn't mean they’re NOT delicious. This taste of heaven is gratinated onion soup. It’s a hot and bubbly mixture with onion, beef stock, freshly grated gruyere, and Parmesan cheese. The little bowl was overflowing with strings of cheese; surprisingly, it tasted better than it looked. The beef stock blended nicely with the cheeses and the bread was perfect for dipping. Today, I’m challenging everyone to try an ugly dish at their next meal (Side Note: Be creative in your selections ;D).
FYI: Carnival Cruise
FOOD TIP: Gruyere cheese originated in Switzerland.

Description: Can we take a moment and have a brief silence for the warm chocolate melting cake. I am definitely NOT a fan of cake; however, I wanted to swim in this pool of warm chocolate, and then cool down with the vanilla ice cream on the side. My cousin Tafara loves chocolate and she knows the real deal when she tastes it. While we were on the cruise she ordered the chocolate melting cake twice. I noticed every time they placed the little dish on the table, her face lit up with excitement. She was in heaven.

Lost & Found
The story that I’m about to tell you is probably irrelevant, but I know your probably wondering what’s the weird bamboo thing in the picture. While I was in Jamaica the people were trying to sell me everything in the sun. They had so much to offer and we had so little time to buy. There was a man selling carved bamboo cups and I was tempted to buy one, but I wanted other souvenirs instead. He walked off and left one cup and never came back. When we were about to leave, I noticed the bamboo cup sitting without an owner. I asked around to see who it belonged to, but no one stepped up to the plate. (Side Note: I know you’re probably wondering whether I took the cup or not???) I made the executive decision to NOT leave the cup, so I brought it back to Atlanta. Before we exited the island, we stopped to have some drinks, and I ordered a Red Stripe Beer. My uncle was already sipping on one, so I joined the club. I enjoyed my Jamaican beer and I got a free cup out of the equation.
FYI: Red Stripe Beer
FOOD TIP: Red Stripe is a Jamaican style lager beer.

Whole Body
I’m introducing a new terminology called “Whole Body.” From time to time, I experience with my vocabulary, and I love sharing my ideas with A Taste of Heaven. “Whole Body” streams from the common phrase: “You put your foot in it.” Well, when I say, “I put my whole body in it,” then that means it was beyond delicious. This taste of heaven is homemade broccoli and chicken ziti. It’s got five different cheeses and a creamy alfredo sauce in the mix. I was on Instagram and my cousin posted a picture of some ziti, and I was jealous. I went to the grocery store and grabbed everything I needed to make the ziti. Once I got home, I immediately went to work. After I shared with my roommates, I only had a little left (Side Note: I saved some extra for myself).
FYI: Further Details...
FOOD TIP: Broccoli is part of the cabbage family.

Island Breakfast
I call this beautiful spread my Island Breakfast. Its fresh grapefruit, cantaloupe slices, French toast, country ham, and a sausage melody with onions. I loaded all of this on my platter, before I stepped foot in the Cayman Islands. I didn’t want a breakfast that was too heavy because I wanted to eat on the island. However, the spread is loaded with nutrition. I really felt like I was doing something once I put the fresh grapefruit on the plate. I think I’m headed in a positive direction.
FYI: Carnival Cruise
FOOD TIP: Cantaloupe belongs to the same family as squash and cucumber.

Description: Smothered, drowning, and swimming in sweet honey barbecue sauce. I wish I was the barbecue sauce on these spare ribs. I was anxious about this feature because I haven’t had any barbecue posts in a minute. Although its the winter time, it’s never too cold to have the grill going. I was invited to a birthday party and the family threw DOWN. We had macaroni and cheese, spare ribs, sweet potato soufflé, collard greens, baked chicken, and potato salad. I was in southern heaven once I made my first plate. Thumbs Up Tiggs!

Yellow Bird
It’s been a long week, and you’re dying for a break. Well, I have the perfect solution. Every Wednesday I will offer a drink to the viewers for “Whine Down Wednesdays.” You don’t have to wait until the weekend arrives to enjoy a great drink. Take a break and have a sip of A Taste of Heaven.
Each day of the cruise was complimented with a signature drink. On the second day of cruising, Carnival offered a cocktail called the Yellow Bird. It’s a tropical mixture with white rum, Galliano, orange juice, sweet and sour, and pineapple juice. I ordered one with an extra shot because I was demonstrating NO LIMITS. The Yellow Bird was one of my favorites because of the pineapple and the white rum. After drinking three, I was on my level.
FYI: Carnival Cruise
FOOD TIP: Galliano is a sweet herbal liqueur that was created in Italy in 1896.

Slappin' Strawberry Shrimp Salad
Currently, I am in class looking through my pictures trying to see what I’m going to post for the day. My mouth is watering as we speak. I have NEVER had a salad that taste this GOOD. I’ve had plenty of salads in my day, but this one blows everyone out the water. This taste of heaven is called the Strawberry Summer Salad. It’s a spring mix salad with tarragon vinaigrette, feta cheese crumbles, caramelized almonds, and blackened shrimp. I don’t know if the tarragon dressing set if off or if the blackened shrimp sealed the deal. I ate every last spinach leaf on the platter. The Strawberry Summer Salad was SLAPPIN'!!!!! I wish I could have one right now.
FYI: Buckhead Bottle Bar & Bistro
FOOD TIP: Tarragon is also known as dragon's wort.

Mini Philly
Sometimes I feel like I eat the same things for dinner. Fish, chicken, shrimp, and turkey are always on the menu. I wanted to eat something delicious that was homemade, so I ventured to Philly in my kitchen. This taste of heaven is a Philly cheesesteak with sautéed mushrooms, onions, peppers, provolone cheese, and tender strips of steak. The wheat roll is spread with mayonnaise and stuffed with all the sautéed ingredients. I love mini Phillies because they are easy to make and its hardy sandwich that will fill you up. In the future I plan to make a foot long Philly for my next friendly gathering.
FYI: Further Details...
FOOD TIP: Slice veggies into strips when making your Philly cheesesteak (avoid dicing).

Birthday Wishes
THEN: Eating a Banana |
NOW: Celebrating on the Cruise |
Today is my 22nd birthday!!!! As you can see, I still look the same. It feels great to be able to see another day. I celebrated my birthday while I was in Jamaica, and I had an AMAZINGGGGG time. I hope I have many more great birthdays to come in the future. I love you all, and I’ll be back Tuesday with more delicious dishes.

The Handsome Strawberry
This taste of heaven is a Chocolate Covered Tuxedo Strawberry. What a mouthful? This juicy red strawberry is covered in white chocolate, and then it's dipped in milk chocolate. For detail, a fine point is used to make the buttons and the festive bow. I saw this design some years ago, and I said I would try to imitate the handsome strawberry. However, Carnival's dessert shop beat me to the punch. The sweet silky chocolate was divine. Although the little gentleman was pricey, he was worth every penny in my pocket.
FYI: Carnival Cruise
FOOD TIP: Make sure the strawberries are fully dried after the washing process because the chocolate will NOT stick.

Description: As I've said before, I’m trying to demonstrate better eating habits. I don’t eat regular hamburgers anymore; however, I will devour a turkey burger in a heartbeat. Although I haven’t had a hamburger in a while, this feature made me have second thoughts. This taste of heaven is an 8 oz gourmet burger, on a toasted Kaiser roll, with sauteed mushrooms, onions, bacon, tomato, and Swiss cheese. The healthy spread is served with French fries and ketchup for dipping. The toppings look phenomenal in this feature. It almost resembles the “Locked & Loaded” post. Nice selection Fred!

Kiss My Red Lips
It’s been a long week, and you’re dying for a break. Well, I have the perfect solution. Every Wednesday I will offer a drink to the viewers for “Whine Down Wednesdays.” You don’t have to wait until the weekend arrives to enjoy a great drink. Take a break and have a sip of A Taste of Heaven.
When I asked the bartender what was the name of the drink with the strawberry and mango, he said, "Kiss My Red Lips." Well, excusssse me sir, but I would like to try one. Of course he looked at me like are you old enough to drink. However, this didn't bother me because I was on vacation and I was trying Whine Down on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. I told everyone that there are NO limits in Jamaica, so leave all the rules and guidelines at home! I have NO morals.
FYI: Carnival Cruise
FOOD TIP: Fresh mangoes can be dressed with ground black pepper and vinegar.

5 Plates
I think my favorite part about cruising was the fact that you can eat as much as you want whenever you want. It's limitless. One night I ordered the broiled Maine lobster tail with grilled jumbo shrimp, roasted broccoli roses, and potato mash. Remember there are NO limits, so I ordered five plates. Yes, I ate everything, and no I did NOT feel full afterwards. My friends and family have always said I must have a tap worm inside of me because it's impossible for me to be so little when I eat so much. I just roll with the punches until a problem arises. I have ONE life and I'm going to live it regardless if I eat one or two plates.
FYI: Carnival Cruise
FOOD TIP: Seafood should NEVER smell fishy.

My Escapade
I'm back!!!! I went on an escapade to Ocho Rios, Jamaica and the Grand Cayman Islands. I said I was going somewhere with flava, so I hopped on a Carnival Destiny ship to set sail. For those who don't know, I've never been out the country, so it felt great to finally experience a different culture and lifestyle. I snapped so many pictures, and I can't wait to share all of them with you. I will be showing every dish I devoured on my vacation. There will be desserts, sandwiches, appetizers, snacks, late night room service, and much more. Hold on tight because this ship is sailing off.
I'm sitting on Lido Deck trying to catch a tan, but I'm not getting any luck because I can't sit down for two seconds. I thought to myself, what can I do to kill some time (Side Note: I'm smiling on the inside right now). If you know me, then you know what I'm thinking about at this very moment. I got up from my chair and headed toward the deli line. I ordered a corn beef sandwich with Swiss Cheese, mustard, and two pickles. I was already sipping on a Bud Light, so the corn beef sandwich sealed the deal for me. When I got back to my seat, everyone looked at me like where is my sandwich. I sat down and said, "You're on your own."
FYI: Carnival Cruise
FOOD TIP: Corn beef pairs well with cabbage, carrots, and potatoes.

Description: I’m SUPER excited about this feature of the week for four reasons:
- It’s the FIRST recipe to premiere on A Taste of Heaven
- The recipe came from another fellow blogger. (Blog: The Soapbox)
- It’s a vegetarian dish that’s healthy for the diet.
- I plan on making this recipe for a holiday appetizer.
Everyone knows that I’m a strong advocate for eating healthy. I’ve tried to become a vegetarian, but I didn’t work out because I lost too much weight. Since the veggie scene wasn’t for me, I tried to become a pescatarian, but I’m deeply in love with other types of meat (Pescatarian: People who abstain from eating all meat and animal flesh with the exception of fish. More and more people are adopting this kind of diet for health reasons or as a stepping stone for a full vegetarian diet). Unfortunately, the whole vegetarian/pescatarian movement is NOT going well; however, I maintain a balance diet as much as possible (Side Note: Please don’t judge me). This taste of heaven is homemade Vegetarian Mexican-Style Layer Bean Dip. Boy, I wish I had a bag of tortilla chips sitting next to me. I would take the first bite because I know this dip heavenly. The best part about it is that it’s loaded with tons of delicious ingredients. The Vegetarian Mexican-Style Layer Bean Dip would make a great appetizer or Scooby Snack. Thanks for this great feature Neel!
Ingredients:
(2 cans) Refried Beans
(1½ bottle) Taco Bell Brand Restaurant Sauce
(16 oz) Sour Cream
(3) Medium Tomatoes
(1) Medium Onion
(1½ Jar) Sliced Jalapenos
(1 bunch) Green Onions
(1 bunch) Cilantro
(½ tsp) Cumin
(½ tsp) Cayenne Pepper
(½ tsp) Lime Juice

perfect solution. Every Wednesday I will offer a drink to the viewers
for “Whine Down Wednesdays.” You don’t have to wait until the weekend

Out of all the beers I've posted, Bud Light Lime is my FAVORITE. Whenever I visit the bar, I always ask for a Bud Light Lime with an extra lime. The bartender always looks at me sideways, but I never pay it any attention. I know it's kind of weird for a female to buy a six pack, but I can hang with the fellas. Believe it or not, I'm usually the one that buys the brews for the kickbacks and friendly gatherings. I even have a private stash in the fridge.
FYI: Bud Light Lime
FOOD TIP: Bud Light Lime launched a ready-to-drink margarita with a twist called Lime-A-Rita (8% alcohol content).

Description: Two golden fried chicken wings, a waffle, roasted pecans, whipped cream, and warm syrup for breakfast. Is your mouth watering yet? I love dishes with weird combinations. Some people would be against a combo like this, but I would dive in with no remorse. The fried chicken is speaking to me right now. I think I might have to experiment with this feature in the future. Mellow Out

If I had to choose between white and brown, I would choose brown. It’s not that I don’t like white as much as brown; it’s just that there are so many great choices of brown. Hennessy, Rémy Martin, Crown Royal, Jack Daniel’s Whiskey, E&J Brandy, and Courvoisier; the list goes on. This taste of Heaven is E&J XO Brandy. Not many of my friends enjoy E&J XO Brandy, but that doesn’t stop me or my friend Davis from drinking it. I know the weekend has started once I see her with the first glass. E&J Brandy has been on the scene since 1938. The popular brandy is made with fresh wine grapes, and then it’s aged in French oak barrels for smoothness. Once the seal is broken, the toasted brown spice and vanilla are guaranteed to mellow out your night.

FOOD TIP: Ernest and Julio Gallo are the founders of E&J Brandy.

Black Swan
Halloween is tomorrow and all the children are ready to show off their customs. Unfortunately, I'm too old to go trick-or-treating, but I’m young enough to carve a pumpkin. After the feature of the week premiered, I was excited about showing off my artistic abilities. This taste of heaven is a pumpkin carved into a black swan. I sketched the swan on my own, but I had some help with the carving process. Once the messy part was over, I put two lit candles in the inside and placed the pumpkin outside. It felt good to be a kid again.
FYI: Pumpkin Carving Tips
FOOD TIP: Pumpkin seeds have a great source of zinc, so when your carving your next pumpkin save the seeds for a delicious snack.

Description: One more week until the creepy crawler Trick or Treat we’ve all been waiting for. I’ve been anticipating this feature of the week since I snapped the first picture of it. This taste of heaven is a carved pumpkin with a spooky face. I admire this pumpkin because it was carved by my friend AB. She pulled out her carving utensils and newspaper, so she could start the messy project. Out of the three pumpkins she bought, this was the ugliest one. I looked at the hideous orange-green warty pumpkin and shook my head thinking whatever floats your boat. After AB finished carving, I noticed that her pumpkin didn’t look that bad. He actually had potential. ;D

Smirnoff launched a new malt beverage called Smirnoff Signature Screwdriver. The newest creation is a “ready-to-drink” mixture with orange juice cocktail and Smirnoff vodka. It’s served in an 11.2 oz bottle with 5.8 alcohol content. Personally, I think it’s the perfect cooler for Halloween. It’s got a festive color, a smooth tropical taste, and it’s inexpensive. All you need is a few packs and some great music to start your spooky Halloween party.
FYI: Smirnoff
FOOD TIP: Compliment the Smirnoff Signature Screwdriver with Halloween inspired finger food.

Unmovable
I don’t know if you remember the veggie shish kabobs I made, but I complimented them with a Cajun crab boil. Plated is snow crab legs, red potatoes, garlic butter shrimp, kielbasa, corn on the cob, and a veggie kabob (containing: red onion, mushrooms, green pepper, zucchini, & yellow squash). My friends laid out newspaper and clean trash bags, so we could feast on this Cajun crab boil. I paired my seafood feast with an ice cold Bud Light Lime and melted garlic butter. After I ate I was unmovable, I just sat there next to shells because I was so FULL. I pigged out.

FOOD TIP: Newspaper and trash bags make any seafood feast an easy clean up.

Sloppy Joe
You didn't have a real childhood, unless you had a Sloppy Joe for dinner. I remember watching the Sloppy Joe scene in “It Takes s Two” with the Olsen Twins. Although the sandwich was messy, it didn't matter because it was a sloppy meal that was delicious. This taste of heaven is Sloppy Joe, on a grilled bun, with red potato French fries. Alright, I was showing out again with this one. A good friend of mine requested this sandwich for lunch, and I couldn't turn her down because it’s a childhood classic. I really don’t have to elaborate on Sloppy Joe because if you haven’t had one, then you missing out. Get it together.
FYI: Manwich
FOOD TIP: Toast the bun, so the Sloppy Joe won't get too messy.
